It's about time we got another chance to fight back against all those Hero-types, raiding dungeons for loot.

As one of three evil champions (a Ranger, a Knight or a Mage), your task in Dungeon Defender is to battle the forces of good in dungeons deep underground as they charge at your throne in an effort to steal your jewels. To progress, you'll have to fend off 16 waves of them, on a total of nine levels, ultimately taking the fight to the humans and sacking their city.

While you can wander around your dungeons smiting good guys yourself, you'll have much better luck if you build a few monster lairs and plant some traps. Doing so however, costs gold: Accumulate funds by destroying heroes or sending your lowly peons to dig through walls and mine valuable ores. You'll also encounter neutral creatures that guard treasure, so be sure to destroy them, too – equipment you find will come in handy for keeping your Dark Lord alive. Complete levels, and you'll also be awarded points to improve your monsters, your traps or yourself, making you a far more efficient killing machine.

The graphics aren't exactly cutting edge, but it's fun, and most importantly, it's the closest we've come to seeing a new Dungeon Keeper game in a long time. So let's go ahead and encourage indie developers to do more with that whole "Evil Overlord" angle.
