Babyboomers Baby boomers are slowly starting to buy, download and stream media online -- even if they haven't given up their VCRs or 8-tracks yet.

Roughly 61 percent of baby boomers (age 44 to 61) said they visited sites that offer streaming or downloadable video, and 41 percent had visited social networks, according to a study from market research group NPD.

Plus, the web-savvy boomers who visited video streaming sites, according to the survey, were 15 percent more likely to buy DVDs, CDs and go to the movies.

"There’s an ongoing misperception that certain Web activities are the exclusive domain of young people," said Russ Crupnick, entertainment industry analyst for the NPD Group, in a statement. "That misperception could cost the entertainment industry, in terms of lost opportunities to target valuable consumers."
