The verdict is out on the fate of Blu-ray, the high-definition DVD format.
On one hand, the disc makers have wildly optimistic expectations for the disc format could sell well for another decade. On the other hand, major industry players -- notably including Samsung and Netflix -- hint that it's a dud.
"I think [Blu-ray] has 5 years left, I certainly wouldn't give it 10," said Andy Griffiths, Samsung UK's consumer electronics director, told Pocket-lint, via Audioholics.
Griffiths thinks the format will have great sales this year, but it will ultimately be replaced by another format or technology.
Griffiths' comments come just days after Netflix CFO suggested that the company hasn't seen any upside from Blu-ray rentals, mainly because prices are still too rich for most consumers.
A rep from the Blu-ray Disc Association wasn't immediately available to respond.
