Spore2

Gamers eager to play Spore the very second it becomes available are now able to download the game from the EA Store (though the data will be unplayable until the game's September 7 launch).

This download scheme, known as pre-loading, allows Electronic Arts' servers to avoid a launch day pounding from fans rushing to snag the game all at once, and also gives players something of a guarantee that they'll actually have the game on day one.

It's a convenient scheme, but personally I would have liked to see EA offer a discount on Spore's digital version. After all, they save money in pure production costs by not having to package or ship the game to stores, so why should we be forced to foot the same $50 price tag?

Those interested in downloading the game can click over to the EA Store and begin your download. The megapublisher estimates "30-60 minutes for the install to complete."
