The captain and motley crew aboard rogue cargo ship Serenity are once again zipping through the universe on wild space adventures, thanks to a collaboration between comics house Dark Horse, MySpace and creator Joss Whedon.

Whedon's original sci-fi show Firefly was canceled in 2002 during its first season on Fox and later produced as a film in 2005 called Serenity.

Serenity: The Other Half picks up the space saga and throws in a bunch of the 'verse lore for good measure: a full-fledged battle with the Reavers, River deep in the throes of a psychic vision, Mal's quick-lipped retorts and more.

Written by Jim Krueger and illustrated by Will Conrad, the eight-page strip is only a hint of what's to come for fellow Browncoats: The Shepherd's Tale, a full-length comic based on the ship's adventures and produced by the same creators, is slated to hit shelves at the end of this year.

The Other Half isn't Whedon's first foray into the world of web comics. In addition to spinning tales about *Buffy: The Vampire Slayer*long-after the show ended its network run in 2003, the geek maestro released a web comic prequel to his internet web musical Dr. Horrible and penned a short comic series called Sugar Shock.

Anyone else wonder how long it'll be before we see a series of web comics based around the amnesiac adventures of the assassins Whedon's upcoming show Dollhouse?
