Barack Obama’s never gonna give you up.
YouTube user Hugh Atkin pushed the rickroll meme a step further with Barack Roll — an ingeniously edited video (embedded) that mashes together snippets of Obama dancing and talking to re-create the lyrics to Rick Astley’s net-popular song, "Never Gonna Give You Up."
"Not that clever, and might be better executed, but it needed to be done," Atkin wrote on his personal blog. "Hope you like it."
Barack Roll is similar to DJ RX’s 2005 mashup of President George W. Bush "singing" the words to the U2 hit "Sunday Bloody Sunday," and is quickly gaining in popularity. Since going live Saturday, the Barack Roll video has tallied nearly half a million views and skyrocketed to YouTube’s Most Viewed Video slot for this week in Australia.
Shortly after posting Barack Roll, Atkin uploaded another clip juxtapozing the Obama video with the Astley original so fans could compare the two.
