New Behind-the-Scenes Featurette on Neil Gaiman's Coraline

Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick is bringing his knack for stop-motion animation to best-selling author Neil Gaiman’s Coraline.

A new featurette (embedded) reveals a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming dark, whimsical 3-D creation.

In the video, Gaiman describes sending Selick his manuscript for consideration as a film project — 18 months before it was published.

Additionally, the clip shows off fresh footage and cast interviews with Daily Show correspondent John Hodgeman and Deadwood‘s Ian McShane.

Coraline, slated to roll out in 2009, also features voice talent in the form of War of the Worlds star Dakota Fanning and Desperate Housewives’ Teri Hatcher. Gaiman’s book of the same name follows the eerie adventures of a young girl who travels through a bricked door in her house to find herself in an strange alternate dimension.
