Joss Whedon has announced plans to reshoot the pilot of his highly anticipated sci-fi drama Dollhouse, starring Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Eliza Dushku (pictured above).
But before fans can cry foul and kick-start lengthy letter-writing campaigns, Whedon explains the idea was his, and his alone.
"The idea to do a new first episode wasn't the network's. It was mine," said Whedon Tuesday, in a characteristically cheeky statement on fan site Whedonesque. "I understood their consternation, and saw the gap between my style and their expectations, and I suggested I shoot a new [pilot]."
Whedon credited "issues with tone" for the extra rounds of shoots, saying he was in a "dark, noir kind of place" during the post-strike two-month crunch to pen the show.
He also said the Dollhouse pilot wouldn't get buried and that it will be shown as the second episode of the series. All good news except for one tiny detail: The highly anticipated teaser reel will not be shown at Comic-Con International in San Diego as planned, since shooting will happen after the event.
Whedon reassured fans that it would be worth waiting for the show's January air date, insisting, "It's going to be a funhouse ride of excitement, fear, existential angst and co-ed showers."
