Although the Austin-based noise collective released Hello, Avalanche in 2007, it is still touring and racking up the weirdness. Its third full-length has inspired all kinds of user-created videos, including this bizarro mash of found footage for the hyperactive track "Moon Boil."

It’s mostly safe for work. Mostly.

The Octopus Project excels in such juxtapositions, cranking out thunderous tunes saturated with riffage, visceral percussion and stacks of synths and amps. Everything is thrown into the mix, from theremin and glockenspiel to horns, strings and the usual rock instruments, and the result is a sonic hybrid that works the dance floor as roughly as it does your eardrums.

You’ll get a chance to catch The Octopus Project’s algorithmic punk live when the quartet hits Lollapalooza this weekend in Chicago, or on their exhaustive west coast  dates that follow shortly after. And here is some bonus Hollywood trivia as a chaser: The band’s aptly named tune "Music is Happiness" showed up in the blackjack flick 21. Double down on that.
