Americans think downloading movies is "far more convenient and eco-friendly than taking a drive out to the local video store," according to survey conducted by CinemaNow, a company whose livelihood depends on movie downloads.
"The survey reports that 94 percent of Americans believe that they make a bigger contribution to the environment by downloading a movie online versus renting or buying at a video store . . . ," said the CinemaNow press release.
Now, aside from the fact that the survey is probably a crock, the premise also seems questionable to us. Assuming it is "more eco-friendly" to download versus rent from a video store -- is it any better to have thousands of people individually download a movie on their computers, and watch it on their monitors or on a TV, instead of watching that same movie projected on a screen with hundreds of other people at the same time? Just asking.
