Eddie Vedder goes it alone in August. Drummer Matt Cameron dabbles in jazz. Has the greatest rock band alive called it a career? Nah, they're just busy as hell.
It's been a crazy 2008 so far for the Pearl Jam crew. Eddie Vedder's soundtrack for Into the Wild not only garnered nominations for an Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy earlier this year, it prompted a rewrite of the Oscar rules. And last month, the band inked a deal with Verizon to expand its successful bootleg program to mobile. On top of it all, Pearl Jam just finished off a June tour along the Eastern seaboard.
But it's not over yet.
Vedder is gearing up for the second leg of his solo tour, which kicks off
August 1 in Boston and wraps on August 22 in Chicago. Tickets go onsale July 11 and are clocking in at a whopping $75 bucks. Maybe it'sbecause Liam Finn is the opener? Or is it because they're availablethrough the hated Ticketmaster?
Meanwhile, current Pearl Jam and ex-Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron, whose visceral pounding has injected new life into the rock legend, has teamed up with Ryan Burns and Geoff Harper (who's played with Herbie Hancock and Bill Frisell) to form the jazz trio Harrybu McCage. Its self-titled debut officially drops into stores on July 8, but is available now through Pearl Jam's Ten Club. It's a mixture of originals and revisions of Thelonious Monk and Funkadelic, and boasts freakout art, viewable above, courtesy of New York graffiti artist Noah Sparkes. Harrybu McCage is the latest side project for Cameron, who's also behind Hater and Wellwater Conspiracy, as well as drum stints for Black Sabbath, Rush, Smashing Pumpkins and more.
Dude gets around, just like his band.
