MSNBC Honcho: There Are No TV Reporters Anymore

Gone are the days of "TV journalism" — now it’s all about  "video journalism," or so says MSNBC.com president and publisher Charles Tillinghast. He argues that the idea that journalists should report a story for a specific TV program is totally outdated, given the proliferation of video news outlets and platforms.

"When somebody from MSNBC goes out to the field and shoots a piece, they aren’t shooting it just for TV, or even worse, for a particular program. They’re shooting a piece that may show up at ‘Nightly,’ MSNBC Cable, MSNBC.com, and it will show up on a mobile device," said Tillinghast in an interview with Andy Plesser, on Beet.tv. "The point is that it’s all about video and all the places people can watch video. I believe that video journalism is not only alive and well, but it’s growing . . . While some traditional journalists may feel like things are in decline, I absolutely feel that’s not true."

We’re pretty sure traditional journalists at dead-tree outlets like the New York Times might beg to differ.
