A Firefox 2 security patch released Tuesday brings the version number to 2.0.0.15 and is available for free to all Firefox 2 users. The patch fixes some underlying security and stability bugs.

With all the excitement surrounding Firefox 3, you might have forgotten that Firefox 2 is still around. It takes a security patch to remind us Firefox 2 isn't exactly dead yet -- at least, not until mid-December when Mozilla officially abandons it in favor of the new awesomeness.

You can download the patch directly from Mozilla or rely on the "Check For Updates..." option from the "Tools" or "Help" menu (depending on your operating system) of your favorite browser. Otherwise, just wait for the automated announcement when you launch the browser within 24-48 hours.

Of course, instead of stringing Firefox 2 along, Mozilla (and Webmonkey) recommend upgrading to Firefox 3 instead.
