An anonymous snitch sent a letter to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Richmond, Va., complaining that Movie Gallery's sale of MovieBeam assets merited an investigation, according to Home Media Magazine.
The letter said the sale to a "mysterious" British Virgin Islands company was suspicious, and called for an open auction for the goods, which reportedly included "satellites, routing computers and tons of equipment."
Movie Gallery, which emerged from bankruptcy in May, acquired MovieBeam, an on-demand movie service, for $10 million in March 2007. By December 2007 the service had been shuttered, only after Disney, Cisco and Intel, among others, had collectively poured an estimated $100 million into the business.
Movie Gallery wasn't immediately available to comment.
