The Lollapalooza music festival kicks off on Friday in Chicago, but fans and bands are already mingling on the site's video section, which is broken down into two channels.
Channel 1 will feature backstage interviews with bands, fans and other exclusive stuff shot by two Lollapalooza employees using one "real" camera plus a more compact one. Basically, they go wherever the average ticket holder cannot and report back.
Meanwhile, the aptly named Channel You features videos shot by fans who are encouraged to "film anything you can with your phones and cameras" on site or at home as they prepare for the festival.
Both sections will be updated with new uploads before and during the event, giving concertgoers a chance to say which bands theythink are going to be best, review the shows they've already seen andshare their experiences at the event. Those who aren't attending canwatch unlimited clips on both channels for free.
Bands set to play include Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Broken SocialScene, The Raconteurs, The Black Keys, Mates of State, The Cool Kids,
Bloc Party, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Spank Rock, Battles,
MGMT, Lupe Fiasco, Rage Against the Machine, Love & Rockets, TheNational, Flosstradamus, Saul Williams, Girl Talk, Gnarls Barkley andmany, many more. Lollapalooza's partner Kyte ishandling the back-end technology that gathers and shares the videos.
Since the festival doesn't start until Friday, there's not much on Lollapalooza/tv
at this point, but you can already find some decent stuff, including atime-elapsed clip of stages being erected, videos of fans anticipatingthe event, and interviews of bands after they check in to their hotelrooms including one particularly memorable one in which MichaelKingcaid from What Made Milwaukee Famous stops vomiting Cheetos and vodka into a toilet long enough to tell Chan Marshall that he loves her.
Update: If you want to watch the bands themselves, AT&T's Blue Room will be streaming several shows live from Lollapalooza. To be alerted just before each band takes the stage in their webcast, sign up for their twitter feed. If you miss one, an archive will be available for a limited time.
