Dr. Horrible Strikes Back -- for Free, on Hulu

Joss Whedon’s direct-to-web musical Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog lives — on Hulu.

"Hulu hosted Dr. Horrible for free for a week, which we, the mushortio-makers, are forever grateful for, and now you can stream it for free on their site. How awesome is that?" said Whedon in a post on the official Hulu blog.

The 42-minute internet miniseries (above) was slated to only be available free through July 27, before exclusively running on iTunes. The just-announced run on Hulu will last through the next four months, according to a statement released by the video portal Tuesday.

The three-act event drew a total of more than 2 million views in just five days, according to Web Scout, a Los Angeles Times blog.

Thanks to an overwhelming fan response online and at Comic-Con International, Whedon recently revealed plans for additional Horrible webcomics and hinted at sequel Horribles and an upcoming DVD, loaded with extras like fan-submitted videos and a soundtrack of musical commentary, sung by both the stars and writers. Whedon’s dubbed that feature "Commentary: The Musical."
