We would admit we were jealous the Gadget Lab got its hands on the iPhone 2.0 OS before we did, except they sit across the room from us and we can geek out on the latest Apple software together. Pictures and a run down are available over at Gadget Lab.
The pictures and walk-through is getting us anxious for the operating system release in correlation with the iPhone 2.0 handset launch on Friday, July 11th.
- Photo Geotagging - After you take a picture, the phone asks if you would like it to also record your geo-location. The photo will be geo-tagged through meta-data using network triangulation on the original iPhone, or with GPS on the new iPhone 2 devices.
- Contacts Search - Sounds just like what it is – an overlooked and highly demanded feature missing in the original OS
- Push E-Mail - Previously, e-mail was fetched in 15 minute intervals. With 2.0, e-mail will be delivered to the phone as soon as it hits your mail server.
The software will be available to both old and new iPhones – in fact, Gadget Lab's copy is running on the first version of the phone.
While we're excited about the next new thing, we're skeptical of the advancements the OS and third-party apps are able to bring, thanks to restrictions in the SDK. What do you think? What are you excited about in the iPhone 2.0 OS? Leave your thoughts in a comment.
