Adobe launched its second beta of Flash Player 10, codenamed "Astro," Wednesday. Astro adds a bunch of helpful new features including Linux support, 3D animation and embedded photo editing tools (called Pixel Bender).

New features in beta 2 include sound APIs and advanced layering of DOM elements (JavaScript pull-down menus appear on top of Flash objects). A full listing is available in Flash Player 10b2's release notes.

The upgrade is available early for testers at Adobe's site. Adobe also offers comprehensive feature tours on 3D effects, Pixel Bender and other features.
