Is the universe of Cimmeria the next big comic franchise to unfold on-screen?__ __
The first glimpse of Grindhouse-alum Rose McGowan as flame-haired warrior Red Sonja was revealed at Comic-Con over the weekend.
As we've discussed at length, remakes are a hallowed ground upon which idea-starved Hollywood producers should tread lightly.
That said, the revamped big-screen treatment of the she-warrior, first portrayed by Danish import Brigitte Nielsen* * in the 1985 adaptation, just might have the right mix of pulp and visual effects to sizzle on-screen -- and we're not just talking about McGowan's chain-mail bikini costume.
Sin City director Robert Rodriguez is attached as producer for the 2009 release, and if the promo poster (right) is any indicator, he will be bringing his stylistic flair to Red Sonja as well.
Also adding to the mythology created by pulp writer Robert E. Howard are the recently announced silver-screen versions of Conan the Barbarian and immortal sorcerer* Thulsa Doom*.
