Picture_2Kung Fu Todd, sister site to Will Ferrell's comedy site Funny or Die, has been officially shut down.

Parent company Or Die Networks decided to shutter the site after traffic came up short of internal expectations, according to Reuters.

Formerly named BlueCollarorDie, the site was originally conceived as a web destination for videos in the vein of comedians Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy, but the concept failed to take off.

In May, the site was given a makeover as satire comedy site Kung Fu Todd, churning out shorts lampooning current events in an attempt to drum up interest. However, traffic continued to plummet from an already meager 60,000 unique visitors per month to 20,000.

The lesson learned is that the world of online video is cutthroat. It's simply not enough to attach high-wattage celebrity names to draw in audiences.

As online video blog NewTeeVee points out, Funny or Die hasn't had a real viral hit since Will Ferrell's foul-mouthed baby short "The Landlord." Other Or Die spinoffs like sports hub Shred or Die and foodie site Eat, Drink or Die have yet to take off
