That mysterious serial key handed out at last year's Blizzcon event is actually a beta key for the Wrath of the Lich King expansion for World of Warcraft, Blizzard has finally revealed.
If you happen to be in possession of one of these keys, Blizzard "urges you to register it immediately," by accessing the company's Future Beta Sign-Up Form, entering your applicable string, and waiting patiently for your personal sneak peek at the biggest PC gaming release of whichever year Wrath is eventually released in.
Those who hung onto their keys will be giddy over this news, but I wonder how many people trashed the keys inadvertently. After all, it took Blizzard 10 months to reveal what the serials actually did, and I have to assume that some Blizzcon attendees aren't the sort to hoard every piece of swag they receive at events – particularly pieces of swag that are functionally just scraps of plastic.
