During the same press conference that brought us word of Sony's upcoming video download service, company president Kaz Hirai also revealed Life With PlayStation, a service that adds weather and news feeds to the Playstation 3, reports GamePro.
The interface has been described as a 3-D, real-time satellite generated globe (complete with cloud cover) that PlayStation 3 owners can rotate using their controllers. Major cities are present, and news and weather reports are available by geographical region.
Though it seems like a similar offering to the News and Weather Channels offered on Nintendo's Wii, Hirai assured the assembled group that Life With PlayStation would be greatly expanded over time to encompass other features including "a system that can visually present stored photos and movies according to their recorded time and place."
Pricing and release window details will be available "at a later date," Hirai said.
