Despite their continued, suspicious silence regarding the subscription plans for upcoming spy thriller MMO The Agency, Sony Online Entertainment has officially denied the idea that the game will feature microtransactions.
A growing trend, particularly among free-to-play MMO titles aimed at the casual gaming market, microtransactions generally take the form of in-game items available to players for a minor cash fee.
"This is not a microtransaction system within The Agency to allow players to buy weapons, outfits, or operatives to be effective within the game world. That's something that we're absolutely not planning on doing," Agency lead designer Hal Milton told Eurogamer in a recent interview.
If there are no plans for a microtransaction system, it leaves one to wonder exactly how Sony plans to recoup the immense development costs associated with a multiplatform MMO. Hopefully more details are forthcoming.
