Facebook freely admits it hasn't monetized its traffic as well as it could. But until the company figures out the secret sauce for fat profits, it has signed some pretty snazzy deals, including an agreement announced today with Visa.
Visa bought $2 million in Facebook advertising to start a small business network on the site. As part of the deal, Visa will award Facebook ad credits to small business owners.
Okay, so $2 million is chump change in the scheme of things -- and it certainly pales in comparison to the go-go deals signed by AOL and Yahoo in the late 90s -- but it still points to the fact that Facebook is moving into the professional space. And even if the company can't efficiently monetize its traffic now, it can still rent out its platform for some decent cash.
