Just a couple hours after Microsoft announced it has ruled out the possibility of a Yahoo acquisition (although it reserves the right to reconsider), Yahoo came forward to basically reiterate Microsoft's position.
"Yahoo! has confirmed with Microsoft that it is not interested in pursuing an acquisition of all of Yahoo! at this time," an official company statement said.
In the meantime, Yahoo says it's hustling to nail down an arrangement to appease disgruntled shareholders.
"Yahoo! and its Board of Directors continue to consider a number of value maximizing strategic alternatives for Yahoo!, and we remain open to pursuing any transaction which is in the best interest of our stockholders. Yahoo!'s Board of Directors will evaluate each of our alternatives, including any Microsoft proposal, consistent with its fiduciary duties, with a focus on maximizing stockholder value."
Presumably, one of those "value maximizing strategic alternatives" could include Google. As recently as Friday, talks between Google and Yahoo reportedly heated up.
