Web Show Imagines the 'Biz' Behind Viral Hits

What if online viral hits and popular YouTube videos weren’t homemade at all, but the product of a hit-making industry?

Viralcom spins that concept into a mockumentary-style, behind-the-scenes look at a fictional, big-budget studio where the magic — of making viral videos — happens.

Though a much better stab at professionally penned web content than the dismal snoozefests of Quarterlife and Squeegees, so far the show only taps into a tiny slice of net culture — the collegiate branded bits.

The net celebs and video memes featured in the show also feel somewhat stale — girls making out, LonelyGirl15 spinoffs — but a hearty smattering of geek-worthy cameos by net celebs like comedian Michael Showalter and the occasional LisaNova gag might be plenty ’nuff legs for the series to stand on.

Created by web comedy writers Joey Mandarino and David Young and fueled by funds from Studio 2.0, the digital initiative of Warner Bros.,  new episodes of Viralcom air every Wednesday. Check out the trailer above for a glimpse of the show.
