The Office, everyone’s favorite mockumentary about flailing paper company Dunder Mifflin, just got a little funnier.
In this Saturday Night Live digital short, Ricky Gervais — creator of the original British version of The Office — sets up the joke, which plays on the idea that he originally nicked the idea for the show from Japanese television.
Then Steve Carrell, who stars as the bumbly boss of NBC’s stateside adaptation of the popular show, leads his Japanese counterparts through awkward conversations and office exercises.
The four-minute skit — acted, mind you, almost entirely in what’s probably pidgin Japanese — is funny enough to make me wonder what kind of internet campaign we’d have to launch to nudge NBC into launching a series of The Japanese Office webisodes.
