American metalheads have it easy.
They worry about things like suburban ennui, rather than dodging scud missiles or being killed in any number of sudden ways. Their rehearsal space concerns usually revolve around finding one, rather than whether theirs is going to be destroyed, possibly with them inside.
In other words, they are not the Iraqi metalheads Acrassicauda.
If American or other headbangers worldwide want to taste the flavor of real rock danger, they can witness the trials of Acrassicauda when the rockumentary Heavy Metal in Baghdad begins its limited release in New York and Los Angeles on May 23. The film will also screen at the Seattle Film Festival from May 24-25, and the DVD follows shortly thereafter on June 10.
If this trailer doesn’t do the trick for you, keep your eyes on Independent Film Channel, which is rolling out a series of clips from the movie, starting with this one.
Long live rock.
