Next to the upcoming All Tomorrow's Parties festival curated by the newly reunited My Bloody Valentine, or even one of the less interesting lineups in Coachella's short history, Lollapalooza hasn't been living up to its namesake lately. Maybe that's why they have teamed up with T-shirt kingpins Threadless, who are crowdsourcing a T-shirt design contest in honor of Perry Farrell's not-dead-yet package concert (Chicago, August 1-3).
Threadless is offering the winning designer some nice incentives: Two three-day passes to the show, two round-trip tickets to Chicago from anywhere on Earth, hotel accommodations for two, two grand in cash and more. But it might take that to convince people to buy tickets, given that attendees like Radiohead, The Black Keys, Kanye West, The Raconteurs, Bloc Party and more can be seen at any number of other regional events. And those are just the headliners; the supporting acts are almost as ubiquitous, although a few bands like Grizzly Bear and The Go! Team shouldn't be missed wherever you are.

In order to win, the chosen designer needs to explain what the term "lollapalooza" means to him or her. The agreed-upon definition of that term is "an extraordinary or unusual thing, person, or event; an exceptional example or instance." As of this writing, the current Lollapalooza is anything but. In fact, it looks pretty much like every other summer music event on the planet.
