The ability to play an MMO while seated comfortably on your couch may be a major part of the PlayStation 3's long-term appeal, according to Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley.

MMOs, Smedley told The Seattle Times, are becoming more mainstream, and as such "are going to be a real strong selling point for the PS3 long term."

Smedley went on to promise that we'd be seeing some "really great" MMOs coming to the PS3. Last year, MMO specialist NCSoft announced that it would be developing exclusive games for the PS3.

In February, NCSoft president Chris Chung told Wired that the company will be unveiling its first console MMO later this year.
