Long in the works, the latest version of the Qt software toolkit has finally been released. Qt underlies the KDE desktop and lots of other GUI software. Incidentally, Trolltech, the makers of Qt, are in the process of being acquired by Nokia.
Version 4.4 adds compatibility with Windows CE; support for XQuery; and integration with the Phonon multimedia framework.
It also incorporates WebKit, the engine that runs Safari, Nokia's mobile browsers, and others. This is a good look at all the possibilities that opens up.
