Although they enraptured The Strokes shortly after their New York emergence in 1999, Longwave owes more to the so-called shoegaze sound of the newly-reunited My Bloody Valentine and Swervedriver. Which is probably why they are opening for Swervedriver for a select few dates during the UK guitar monster’s comeback tour. Birds of a feather, and all that.

Longwave‘s forthcoming, as-yet-untitled effort builds on Swervedriver‘s twin guitar assault — especially on the free, unreleased download "Sirens in the Deep Sea," available here for a valid email address. It’s worth it: An ethereally noisy loud-quiet-loud nugget, "Sirens in the Deep Sea" ought to make any fan of My Bloody Valentine’s "Only Shallow" or Dinosaur Jr.’s "Green Mind" feel right at home.

The band’s upcoming release is helmed by engineer/mixer/producer Peter Katis, who did the same for Interpol and The National. The band will open for Swervedriver on the east coast leg of that tour, from June 7-12.

(Speaking of which, keep an eye out for some more in-depth Swervedriver coverage here soon.)
