We finally know a bit more about Gears of War 2 than just that it's going to be the "bigger, better, and far more bad-ass" sequel that designer Cliff Bleszinski promised us during the Microsoft keynote at GDC.

GoW 2 picks up six months after its predecessor, with players once again taking on the role of reluctant hero Marcus Fenix as he leads Delta Squad in a fight against the Locust. No great surprise there. Somewhat more interesting is Epic's claim that the game will allow players to "explore multiple story arcs that introduce new characters and flesh out the histories of familiar ones."

Epic says you should expect the familiar Gears action, but on a much larger scale. You can also look forward to "new characters, more weapons, nastier enemies, bigger vehicles and grander locales." Nastier Locust? What, do they make cracks about my mom as they're trying to kill me?

Gears 2's co-op campaign has been tweaked to be a bit more flexible for players of all skill levels. Players can drop in and out of the co-op campaign at any time, and play at their own difficulty settings, so no more retrying a level time and again because your partner is a bullet sponge.

Speaking on behalf of crappy players everywhere, thank you, Epic. The guilt I got from blowing co-op missions over and over was killing me.

Gears of War 2 will be out for the Xbox 360 this November. More screenshots follow.
