Funcom has released an official statement on the closure of Age of Conan's Early Access program, presumably in an effort to quell the anger of all those people who felt slighted by the company's decision.
The statement reiterates that Funcom always claimed the Early Access program was subject to early closure, particularly if too many people pre-ordered the title specifically to enter the game ahead of time.
Additionally, the development house says that though it could repatriate the game's closed beta servers to accomodate those left out of the Early Access program, they'd prefer to use the servers to gather important Quality Assurance information on the game.
For those of you who missed yesterday's drama, Funcom decided to close Age of Conan's Early Access program, a program through which people who pre-order the game could begin playing the MMO prior to its official release date.
I appreciate what Funcom is doing here, and at the very least, it should be praised for confronting its critics.
Still, I don't think its explanation will work.
The legions upset by Funcom's revelation yesterday rival even the most devoted console fanboy for blind zealotry and lack of logical thought. Pointing to the fine print is only going to be met with swears and denial.
