June 10 will see the release of the latest addition to EVE Online, a free expansion pack dubbed EVE Online: Empyrean Age.
The free download brings with it a number of changes, all themed around the idea that Empyrean Age "brings an explosive end to the fragile peace that has existed for one hundred years between the four central races of New Eden," as the official press release says.
An extensive list of additions included with the expansion can be found at CCP's official Empyrean Age site, but most enticing is the idea of factional militias. The expansion looks like EVE's answer to the MMO community's sudden interest in large scale PvP combat, and forcing players to split into territorial factions can only lead to violent conflict.
