Foreign Body, a new web show from former Disney mogul Michael Eisner, dives into the dark side of medical tourism.
Body follows the journey of a group of Indian nurses who jump on an opportunity to work in Southern California, despite suspicions about their employers, a group of villainous entrepreneurs.
The first few episodes debuted online this week, and hint at what’s to come: nefarious medical practices afoot, dirty money dealings and the requisite pageview gold mine — sizzling scenes featuring scantily clad women. (Watch the series teaser after the jump.)
No need to worry that the show will go kaput after just a few episodes: The mysterious thriller will air daily, for 10 weeks — that’s a whopping 50 episodes.
The show doubles as promotion for an upcoming book written by best-selling author Robin Cook, who inked the novels Coma and Outbreak as well as the prologue script for the web show. Cook’s book of the same name is due on shelves in early August.
Billed as an "exotic thriller," Foreign Body is no homespun operation. Some scenes were shot on location in India and cost around $10,000 per episode to create, according to NewTeeVee.
That puts the estimated tally for the show at a hefty half-million dollars, a big budget boost for Big Fantastic, the production company behind the show.
Big Fantastic also developed hit teen-scream serial Prom Queen for former Disney mogul Michael Eisner’s new media studio, Vuguru, which is also backing Body.
If Body ropes in an audience anywhere near the size of Prom Queen, which racked up 15 million viewers, the show could be a summer smash hit.
New episodes will air daily for the 10-week run up to the book’s launch, and will roll out to video platforms YouTube, Veoh, Hulu, Blip and Dailymotion.
