We have yet to hear of a single case of a virus being transmitted by an MP3 file, but apparently, a malware executable is making the rounds on Limewire and elsewhere by pretending to be an MP3 song or MPG movie.
If you're crazy enough to click Yes when your computer asks whether you want to install something called "Play_MP3.exe," and then agree to NetNucleus' end-user license agreement on top of that, your PC could become infected with adware.
According to Craig Schmugar of McAfee (via PC World), over 360K McAfee users have triggered alerts in their anti-virus software after downloading NetNucleus' trojan horse adware program, and those alerts were on the rise as of Tuesday.
Even if you're sane enough to know not to click "Yes" and "I Agree"
when an MP3 you've double-clicked on starts installing an unknown program, leave the following files alone should they show up in your P2P searches:
