Rootclip Crowdsources the Moviemaking Process

Rootclip, a collaborative online moviemaking experiment, lets users vote on what happens next in an ongoing web saga.

Cool thing is, fans can also create chapters and submit them for consideration to be included the project.

In late April, the Rootclip team debuted its "rootclip" movie intro (embedded right). It sets the stage for the collaboration, spinning a mystery-noir story involving a case of mistaken identity.

Since then, amateur auteurs have been shooting one-minute submissions for part two of the online show. This week, the second chapter was selected from a batch of entries, and the race for the next segment is on.

The creators of each winning chapter receive a cash prize of $500 and the chance to win a trip to Michigan’s Traverse City Film Festival to watch the collaborative film’s debut and kick it with documentarian Michael Moore.
