As part of their April Foolery shenanigans, Google teamed up with Virgin to recruit pioneers for a new venture: Project Virgle, an effort to colonize Mars.
The companies' honchos will be "leading hundreds of users on one of the grandest adventures in human history," according to the Virgle site, which encourages volunteers to fill out a wacky questionnaire and apply to become a "Virgle pioneer."
The masses are heeding the call – 50 (and counting) responses have surfaced on YouTube, ranging from cute and funny to downright kooky (see right).
Virgin Group president and founder Richard Branson and Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin posted their own videos early Tuesday, urging YouTubers to submit their 30-second – video applications for consideration.
Who knows if Virgle will do anything with the responses, but it's fun to see the spirit of the prank catching on.
