I've got good news and bad news: The good news is that the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion Wrath of the Lich King has finally reached the alpha testing stage, and is currently being played by anonymous gamers somewhere in the world.

The bad news is that neither you nor I have been invited to join in the fun; this phase of testing is only open to a select few gamers hand-picked by Blizzard.

The silver lining to this dark, envious cloud is that now that the game has entered alpha, and Blizzard -- a company notorious for not releasing a game "until it's done" -- has allowed the public to see it, a more public beta (and the actual release of the expansion) can't be all that far off.
