Which seems more appropriate for a kids morning show: slow-motion shots of muscley hunks and teeny bikini-clad Brooke Burns or an animated show about a well-meaning, though a bit dysfunctional, family?
If you guessed the latter, you’d be wrong, at least according to the Venezuelan TV channel that yanked The Simpsons from its 11 a.m. viewing slot because the cartoon was deemed inappropriate for children.
The replacement program to be shown in its place? Baywatch Hawaii.
Apparently, complaints about the animated laughathon built around America’s ultimate nuclear family were filed with a government regulatory agency, though reports have yet to specify what elements about the show were causing offense. A manager at the station said The Simpsons "had the highest levels of viewership for that morning timetable in the history of the channel," according to the Associated Press.
Underwire readers, what do you think? Were you allowed to watch The Simpsons as a kid? Like most of my friends, I was allowed to watch the show (often my parents would sit and watch with us) even though any fan merch adorned with sassy Bart-isms were briefly banned by my elementary school.
Just for a fun stroll down memory lane, check out the clip (above) of the awesome live-action Simpsons intro created by British television service SkyTV that made the viral rounds a few years back.
