Listening Post appeared live on WNYC’s Soundcheck program yesterday to discuss a potentially huge problem with MySpace Music, which is partially owned by the major labels and yet will include music by unsigned and indie label artists.
Other topics covered included Madonna and Mariah Carey besting Elvis Presley’s sales records, Live Nation’s "360-degree" deals with Jay-Z and others, the Muxtape phenomenon and more.

After my segment, OK Go! lead singer Damian Kulash discussed net neutrality:
I hung around in the WNYC control room long enough to watch They Might Be Giants tear it up with some kids’ songs from their latest album, Here Come the 123s (a follow-up to their gold-selling album Here Come the ABCs). These guys have maintained their quirky music sensibility perfectlyintact in over two decades (updated) of music making and even through extendeddealings with The Mouse (a.k.a. Disney), which released both children’salbums. Impressive.
Here’s their segment, including the live performances (producer Joel Meyer said the Soundcheck podcast also now includes the live performances that they tape in-studio):
