Hoping to remind us why we fell in love with Ivy, Mitsurugi and Siegfried in the first place, Namco is releasing the original Soul Calibur on Xbox Live Arcade.

The summertime release of* Soul Calibur* on XBLA is no doubt intended to stir interest for Soul Calibur IV, which is due out for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in late July. What's curious, though, is Namco's apparent snub of PS3 owners -- Soul Calibur won't be coming to the PlayStation Network.

Unfortunately, it also appears as though there won't be an online versus mode, just local play, but even that is enough to set my fingers to twitching. Soul Calibur was one of the first two games I got for my Dreamcast (the other was Sonic Adventure, for those of you keeping score at home), and I played it until my hands literally had to be pried off the controller.

Namco didn't provide a specific release date for *Soul Calibur *yet, but we'll let you know when it does.
