The Slacker customizable internet radio service (with optional hardware player) just made it possible to request that specific songs be included in your interactive stations.
A new tab in the Edit Station section called Requests allows you to enter an artist name in order to be presented with a list of their songs. Click the heart next to any song to request that it be added into the mix. As you can see from the image (click to expand), they've got plenty of the rarer stuff, including around forty songs by 14 Iced Bears.
Slacker lets you listen to customizable online radio on your computer, as well as cached version on its portable device. I normally describe it as "portable Pandora." But not only is its catalog considerably larger than that of Pandora, but this tool allows a degree of control not possible with other interactive radio services. Sites like imeem and SeeqPod let you hear a wide variety of songs instantly, but I haven't seen any other interactive radio stations that let you inject specific songs into a station.
Slacker is free to use on a computer, although paying a monthly fee removes ads and lets you skip more songs. And, of course, the portable device version of the service isn't free. Check out all the details in our full review.
