Definition of a sucker punch: Telling Europeans that they'd finally be getting Rock Band on May 23rd (hooray!), then telling them that they're going to have to sell their brother -- the one they like, too -- to be able to afford it.

Unlike Rock Band's American debut, consumers will have to buy the game and the instruments separately. An instrument bundle will cost GBP 130 / EUR 170, reports Eurogamer. The game alone will run you GBP 50 / EUR 70, bringing the total to GBP 180 / EUR 240.

All of which would be fine and dandy were it not for the fact that Rock Band costs less than half that in the U.S. -- $170 for the whole shebang, the equivalent of GBP 85 / EUR 107.

Eurogamer readers' reactions to the news range from calmly disappointed comments such as "Oh my, that's far more than I expected," to the more succinct, but equally eloquent, "'kof."

Rock Band will be a timed Xbox 360 exclusive, with Wii, PS2 and PS3 versions to follow later on this summer.
