Revealing a big new reason to oppose London Mayor Ken Livingstone's Congestion Charge, Porsche rolled out the brutish Cayenne Turbo S at this week's Beijing Motor Show. Since arriving in China in 2001, Porsche has seen its sales volume grow exponentially.
The top-dog Cayenne (the fifth model in the range, after the V-6-powered base model, the V-8-powered S and GTS, and the 500-horsepower Turbo) features a twin-turbo 4.8-liter V-8 producing 550 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque.
That's sufficient to launch the 5000-pounder to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 174 mph.
The Turbo S returns about 16 mpg city/highway combined — exactly the same as the standard Turbo, despite the additional power.
Equipped with a passel of visual and performance enhancements, including a freer-flowing exhaust system and 21-inch wheels, this most fearsome Cayenne has a commensurately fearsome price: €111,400 in Europe, or about $177,000. Porsche's ceramic composite brakes are optional.
