The new 1.3.30.0 patch for Pirates of the Burning Sea is simply massive. How massive? The final patch weighs in at a little over 700MB -- a little more than one-sixth of the game's total size.

Changes included in this gargantuan amount of code are too many to list here, but they include tweaks to every character class, a wealth of alterations to ships and combat skills and a few performance improvements.

It might just be the inevitable passage of time and increasingly large patch size, but does anyone else feel an cold chill when they hear the term "huge patch" in association with a Sony Online Entertainment title?

It's hard to forget the community backlash when the company decided to fix combat in Star Wars Galaxies, prompting many players to quit, and even more to consider that patch as the moment the game fell apart.

Hopefully I'm wrong here, but it's just so hard to trust SOE when it comes to MMOs.
