Anecdotal evidence suggests that children's music causes mental disorders in adults, although an authoritative study on the topic has yet to be released, as far as we know. But as I discovered while listening to They Might Be Giants perform songs from their last two kids' records in a WNYC studio last week, it's possible to write songs that can be enjoyed by kids and their parents alike.
Parents interested in preserving their sanity would do well to seek those albums out, and to listen to GeekDad's HipTrax podcast. The third episode, available as a stream or download, features music from Riddle TM, The One Ups and Elfonso and amusing commentary from the dads behind the blog. (As an aside, I'll be discussing how indie music stores are faring in the digital age on WAMU 88.5 FM in Washington, D.C. in about five minutes – live stream here.)
