Firebug, the powerful IDE add-on to Firefox that helps in front-end web development, doesn't work in my Firefox 3 beta 5. The difficulty is documented here.
That inconvenience led me to a helpful blog post, which in turn led me to the cutting-edge 1.2 branch of Firebug, currently in alpha.
The new version works, but that's not all. In addition to all the old Firebug coolness – clean source inspection and browsing of HTML, CSS, and DOM objects, real-time AJAX debugging, breakpointing, network activity monitoring – 1.2 alpha brings some lovely improvements. External editors are better integrated, and JavaScript evaluation and network monitoring feels much smoother. Check it out.
