The world of Fallout 3 is simply too expansive for a demo of the game to be at all practical, reports Eurogamer.

"[T]here's no way to portion off a section and have it stand on its own without putting the whole game in the demo, which we're just not going to do," said Bethesda's Pete Hines.

Besides, says Hines, the fun of a game like Fallout 3 or Elder Scrolls is that "you can go where you want and do what you want," which simply wouldn't be possible given the necessary restrictions of a demo.

As much as we want to get our hands on Fallout 3 as soon as we can, we have to admit that a demo just doesn't make much sense. Even assuming that Bethesda simplified matters by forcing players to use a pre-made character -- which may or not be anything like the character you'll actually want to play -- the world of Fallout 3 is going to take more time and exploration to understand and appreciate than a demo could reasonably provide.
